Building for the Future

The Bank of St. Helena was created to provide the communities of St. Helena with modern commercial banking services aimed at simplifying and making more efficient everyday financial transactions.

It remains committed to providing these communities (which include Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha) with a quality and affordable banking service that is suited to their needs.

History

Bank of St. Helena is established and regulated in St. Helena under the Banking Ordinance 2003 and the Bank of St. Helena Ordinance 2003.   It commenced operations on 1^st April 2004.

At its creation Bank of St. Helena inherited the assets and accounts of the former Government Savings Bank (in St. Helena) and the Ascension Island Savings Bank, both of which then ceased to exist.

Since its launch in 2004 the bank has introduced many new services, aimed at making financial services more readily available to its clients.

New Manager Takes Over (April 2008)

With effect from 1^st April 2008 Bank of St. Helena has a new Manager and Managing Director.

After working in banking overseas Ms Rosemary Bargo joined the bank’s predecessor, the Government Savings Bank, in 2003.  She assisted with the creation of Bank of St. Helena, which took place in April 2004, and was appointed its Chief Operations Officer in August 2005, a role which has given her day-to-day management of all the operating activities of the bank.
