We can encash most types of travellers cheques, in the following currencies, without prior notice

We may be able to encash cheques denominated in other currencies by prior arrangement. Please contact us with your requirements.
UK Sterling Cheque Encashment
Arrangements for account holders
The Bank of St. Helena is happy to accept Sterling cheques drawn on UK banks, for payment into a Bank of St. Helena account. Simply present the cheque at our office and we will credit the funds (after charges) to your account the same day.
Please note that, although we will credit your Bank of St. Helena account on the day you present the cheque, we have to send the cheque back to the UK for clearing, therefore:
We reserve the right to debit your account at some future date if the cheque is not honoured by your UK bankers;
We can only accept cheques made out in the name of the account holder or to "Bank of St. Helena" (in particular we cannot accept cheques made out to "cash").
Please note: Account holders who wish to make regular transfers from the UK are advised that our International Receipts facility is a cheaper and more efficient method of receiving Sterling funds. Please see the services page for details.
Arrangements for visitors
We can also cash cheques for visitors and other non-account holders, but only with a cheque guarantee card and up to the maximum value of thereof. Cheques should be made payable to "Bank of St. Helena".
Other Cheque Processing
Other cheques may, at the manager’s discretion, be accepted, for clearing on a ‘Strict Collect’ basis:
‘STRICT COLLECT’ CLEARING
Where a cheque is accepted for clearing on a ‘Strict Collect’ basis, we will send the cheque to Lloyds TSB Bank in the UK for processing.
When we receive payment we will credit your account with whatever amount we receive.
The charges for this service must be paid before the cheque is sent for processing.
