How to send money to a Bank of St. Helena account

As a result of its arrangement with Lloyds TSB Bank in the UK, Bank of St. Helena can offer a fast, efficient and cheap method of transferring money from anywhere in the world to any Bank of St. Helena account.

Irrespective of where you are and the currency of your local account, sending money to a Bank of St. Helena account follows the same process:

  1. You send funds to a Sterling (GBP) account held at Lloyds TSB Bank in London, UK (details below);

  2. You notify Bank of St. Helena (see the contacts page for how) and provide the amount and the name/number of the Bank of St. Helena account to which you want the funds credited (this can be your account, or that of anyone you want to pay who has an account at Bank of St. Helena);

  3. Lloyds TSB Bank notifies Bank of St. Helena when the funds arrive;

  4. Bank of St. Helena credits the account you specified.

Please note:
Make sure your bank understands that they are required to send funds to a UK bank account in the name of Bank of St. Helena.
From the UK this is a domestic transfer, not an international one.

Timing

If you are sending money from another UK bank, your transfer to Lloyds TSB Bank may take 2-3 working days. Once the funds are received at Bank of St. Helena's Lloyds TSB Bank account, we will credit them to the Bank of St. Helena account on the same or the next working day.

If you are sending money from elsewhere in the world you must ask your local bank to advise you on the speed with which they can get funds to London.  If the payment is urgent please ask them for express transfer (for which you must expect them to make an additional charge).

Fees

You must ask your local bank for information about their fees and charges for sending funds to a Lloyds TSB Bank account in London.  From another UK bank account this would normally be free.

If sending funds in a currency other that Sterling (GBP) there may be additional deductions for currency conversion.

Once the funds are received into Bank of St. Helena's account the remainder of the process is (currently) free.
