RELEASE Reduction
in Interest rates on Savings Accounts Issued 27 February 2009 The Bank of St Helena regrets to advise its customers that with effect from 1 April 2009 the rate of interest payable on all savings accounts will be reduced by 1%. The new rates will apply to the following: ·
Current
accounts from 4% to 3% ·
Child
Bond Saving Accounts from 6% to 5% ·
New
Life Accounts from 5% to 4% The world financial crisis has resulted in a significant reduction in rates of interest being offered by the financial institutions with whom the Bank places its overseas investments. The Bank’s prudent investment policy and practices has allowed the current savings rate to remain stable for longer than most people would have expected. However as new investments have now to be made at lower rates it is unavoidable that the savings rates payable by Bank of St. Helena must be reduced accordingly. Customers are assured that the Bank’s management will continue to closely monitor the situation and the Board of Directors will review and revise interest rates as and when applicable. Bank of St. Helena Base RateAll interest rates on accounts and loans are derived from the current Bank of St. Helena Base Rate. Any change to the Bank of St. Helena Base Rate results automatically in a change to all other rates, by the same amount. Current Rates
